Build the foundation to work with learners from diverse linguistic, educational, and ethnic backgrounds and become certified as a teacher of English as a second language in New Jersey. Our fully accredited, 15-credit program emphasizes language, literacy, applied linguistics, and second-language teaching approaches, with hands-on preparation for teaching at different levels.
Requirements (15 credits)
This program provides the necessary courses for certification as a teacher of English as a second language in New Jersey. General requirements for issuance of the certificate are: 1) a teaching credential in another field; 2) proven proficiency in the English language; and 3) fifteen to eighteen semester hours in the designated areas (depending upon teaching experience).
