Teaching English as a Second Language program at The College of New Jersey provides graduate-level programs leading to ESL Initial Certification, ESL Endorsement Certification, Bilingual Certification, and MEd in TESL.
With the support of two five-year Federal Professional Development Grants ($4.6 million), the TESL program has been running ESL/Bilingual Cohort Certification programs at school districts and three-day ESL Summer Academy workshops by nationally renowned TESL professionals in July since 2011.
The program is designed to develop candidates’ competency in the application of the theoretical foundations of second language learning and acquisition and bilingual education. The main objective is to enable candidates to practice ESL/EFL and bilingual methodologies, to design and implement appropriate instructional strategies and activities, to develop curricula and select materials, and to perform proper assessments.
Sponsored by the new Federal Professional Development Grant, limited scholarships are available to new students enrolled in on-campus certification programs. For each on-campus certification course, students can receive a scholarship of $500 upon completion of their certification program.
